On the 20th anniversary of World Breastfeeding Week (WBW), said strong national policies supporting breastfeeding could prevent the deaths of around one million children under five in the developing world each year.

World Breastfeeding Week was first celebrated in 1992 by World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) and is now observed in over 120 countries by UNICEF – Wikipedia
In a statement yesterday to mark the 2012 WBW, from August 1 to 7, the global children’s body said while exclusive breastfeeding rate is on the increase globally and in Sub Saharan Africa, it is actually on the decline in Nigeria.
According to the Nigerian Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) 2008, exclusive breastfeeding decreased from 17 per cent in 2003 to 13 percent in 2008.
