Jimmy Savile Sexuality has landed a big blow on the BBC and the British Crown with many new revelations.
Before he died last year, Jimmy Savile was viewed as a kind of UK equivalent to American TV icon Dick Clark, gaining fame by bringing music to generations of teens and He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. A Knight who now stands accused as a predatory sex-offender.
The shocking allegations have Britain reeling as numerous viewers who grew up watching Savile on TV’s Top of the Pops and his children’s program Jim’ll Fix It are now questioning their trust in the British Broadcasting Corporation.
This is refered to as the worst crisis ever thrown at the BBC in 50 years according to a top correspondent, and the scandal has prompted a wider examination into an alleged culture of sexism stretching back decades.
The scandal has also gripped the British media, with many questioning who knew what and when about the alleged abuse of mostly teenage girls and whether there was any attempt of a coverup.
Police say they have identified more than 200 potential victims spanning several decades, and are investigating other suspects in connection with alleged abuse.
Savile died in October 2011 at age 84, soon after being treated in a hospital for pneumonia.
Savile came to fame in an era of social transformation. He started out as a dance hall DJ in the early days of rock ‘n’ roll before breaking into television in the early ’60s as host of the music program Top of the Pops after which he hosted Jim’ll Fix It which many teens called a magic moment.
Along with new freedoms came opportunities for abuse according to Fox News. Savile’s career in the exploding world of popular entertainment gave him access to legions of star-struck young people and he was able to take advantage of it because of course he became famous and he could introduce them to famous people, get them on Top of the Pops according to Max Clifford, Britain’s best-known celebrity publicist.
Prince Charles led tributes to Savile when he died last year. While there’s no suggestion the heir apparent had any clue about the celebrity’s predatory sexuality, Savile did host Charles at his Glen Coe hideaway with scantily clad waitresses. The same cottage, now daubed with graffiti calling Savile “a beast,” has been the focus of police investigations according to Daily Beast.
