ThisDay Live has it that some of the 2,000 troops deployed in Borno in the aftermath of the presidential proclamation, have begun an offensive to retake territory seized by the Islamist insurgents by raiding camps in a game reserve in the state.
The Agence France Press (AFP) quoting a military source, said the troops raided the terrorists’ camps in the Sambisa Game Reserve, located in northern Borno, early on Wednesday to flush out members of the terrorist group who have killed about 4,000 people since 2009 when they took to arms struggle following the extra judicial killing of the sect leader, Mohammed Yusuf.

Where necessary, the military could also resort to air strikes as it confirmed Thursday that it was ready to launch air strikes against the Islamists.

Despite the peaceful negotiation offered by the Federal Government which the Boko Haram sect turned down, many still believed that the State of Emergency rule was rather a harsh one BUT must we wait until all is dry and spoil before taking an offensive step?

Mr. Oritsejafor has persistently opposed the negotiation option with the Islamist fundamentalists that have staged attacks against churches and other public places across the states in the northern part of the country.

The leader of the Christian community in Nigeria on Wednesday said that the declaration of a state of emergency in three North East states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, is a justified action and a vindication of CAN’s position that negotiation with terrorists will always end up a futile exercise.

In another story published by Vanguard News on the 10th of May, 2013, Papa Ayo opposed the wasteful nature of Tax payers fund in the Amnesty programme. He was quoted as saying:

“Indeed, the arrogant and deriding manner with which Boko Haram dismissed the amnesty deal coupled with the earlier quoted statement by Abu Qaqa have both reinforced our stance that the sect’s only interest is to eliminate Christians and enthrone an Islamic state in Nigeria. This is why we are again calling on President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan not to waste tax payers’ money on a futile exercise”

Linda Ikeji reports that:

Just minutes after President Jonathan declared a State of Emergency in Borno State (and two other states), the Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Reverend Faye Pama Musa was killed by suspected Boko Haram members. This happened around 7.30pm this evening.

Reverend Pama Musa, who was the head pastor of a pentecostal church in Maiduguri, was shot dead inside his GRA home by two gunmen who trailed him to his residence. The head quarters of Borno CAN have confirmed his killing.

The killing of Rev. Pama has not only propelled anger amongst Christian Associations world over but also a justification of President Jonathan’s declaration.

Obafaye, who was replaced by Mr. Adesuyi Clement from Oyo State Command after his now famous interview on Channels Television breakfast programme ‘Sunrise’ daily about two months ago, was during the period without a portfolio until last week when he was asked to replace Adesuyi officially.

Obafaye, while resuming duty at his new post, promised to discharge his duties with every sense of responsibility. “I am determined to serve in Oyo State and I know God will help me,” he said.

Against all rumors that Mr Shem has been layoff by the agency, he will now take charge of the office of Commandant in Oyo State.
