Boko Haram Sect attacks Damaturu Jail, frees 41 Inmates

| June 24, 2012

About 41 inmates of Damaturu jail in Damaturu, Yobe State escaped when suspected Boko Haram gunmen attacked on Sunday morning.
In the attack, a prison officer was reportedly killed while 2 sustained severe injuries.

Reports said the escapees are suspected Boko Haram members arrested in the 2 days of gun battles with the Joint Task Force within the state capital last week.

This particular prison is a temporary holding facility where suspects are kept for briefing before being transferred to either Potiskum jail or alternative states.

It is said to possess dwarf walls and is guarded by some warders.

State commissioner of police, Patrick Egbuniwe, confirmed the incident.
